Zimbabwe

Like 99.9% of the population I know almost nothing about Mugabe and his policies or what’s happening in that country.

As one who supported protests at the Rhodesian Information Centre some 30 odd years ago, this makes me feel a bit guilty.

I recall with fondness Sekai Holland and believe that she is in opposition to Mugabe which causes me to instinctively view his regime with suspicion. But I can’t help but resile from any policy of isolation of Zinbabwe when it is so publicly led by John Howard anf his “willing” mate Tony Blair.

Somebody please tell me what’s happening?

Cricket in Zimbabwe

As a semi serious student of cricket, and of Africa, it makes me smile to watch an all black Zimbabwe cricket team in action (on Foxtel naturally). I can’t understand all the fuss, after all, the white Zimbabwe team wasn’t so flash, in fact on their recent tour of Australia they were down right dreadful.

Not so many years ago the Sri Lankan team was equally dreadful, but given a fair go they eventually became the one day world champions.

Blacks in southern Africa have been denied a fair go for over 500 years.

I don’t know anything about the whites in Zimbabwe except that the worst of them emigrated to Australia and sent their offspring off to become journalists.

Willy Mason

Another who deserves a fair go.
